Hello Everyone! My name is Jessica, I’m the CEO of TooGEEK.
What can I tell you about me? I’m from Bogotá, Colombia. Some of my hobbies are: read books, play video games, watch movies and series. I studied Electronic Engineer and when I get graduated, I had to decide between two different worlds: the academic one, or to become an entrepreneur. During my career I’ve experienced a few things related with management and leadership, so I decided to give it a try and start my own company. Fortunately, I team up with two amazing guys.

What i like the most in my job, it’s that I have the opportunity to work with two different kind of people. Creative ones (designers/artists), and methodic ones (engineers). I become the bridge between them, and push them to get out of their comfort zone. Embrace their geek talent.
About TooGEEK… It’s a company that sells products related with pop/geek culture such as comics, action figures, video games of different franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, DC Comics, etc.
Our real value as a company is that we bring a hole new experience around this culture. We believe in embrace the geek passions of our followers, building a huge community, connecting people with similar interests, and becoming a light of joy and happy memories in these difficult times.
How do we do that? Now, we have three physical stores, one of them it’s our headquarters. A 200 meters space with a store, Coffee Shop, game place and a big conference room. Also we have an e-commerce and an important presence in social media.

This is a short abstract of a history that started 7 years ago as an idea, and today has become the leader company of the market, here in Colombia.
About the topic that I’d like to share, it was difficult to choose one because the last months I feel I’ve grown as a CEO and entrepreneur more than ever. I think this pandemic situation put all of us against the ropes. And that’s what I want to talk about: How to turn this into a classic rope-a-dope.
Peter Thiel, the author of the book Zero to One, said: Just like a person, a company only birth once, and there’s only one moment where you define almost everything: values, culture of your company, strategies.
But surprisingly, this Covid era changed the rules. Entrepreneurs today have a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to re-born, to correct those vices because of inexperience without having to start another company. Just as in a video game, we earn a 1up to re-start the game without losing the play we’ve advanced.
In TooGEEK we took that opportunity and cut the bad grass. As I said to my team: we’re like the Fenix. And the results are amazing! Our followers have felt our re-born and our employees too. It’s like going back to basics but with much more experience.
For us this happen in a perfect timing. Before covid, we were planning an expand plan to other cities and countries. We were planning our first round of investment. With these new discoveries, I’m more confident on how to do this important step even better.
My conclusion is this: Your mindset about this situation it’s everything: Optimistic one, or Pessimistic one… and acting according to that, could change completely the outcome.
